Minutes from February 16, 2012 Trustee Meeting

Ronald C. Wornick Jewish Day School Trustee Meeting

Minutes of Meeting Conducted on February 16, 2012

(Trustee Meeting #7 of 2011-2012 School Year)

Trustees Attending Meeting: Joelle Kaufman, Roger Feigelson, Madeline Benson, Caren Neydavoud, Amy Sosnick, Paul Lipman, Fran Eastman, Amy Sosnick, Yaniv Bensadon, Carrie Ridge, Marina Milstein, and Larry Lustig.

RCWJDS Staff Attending Meeting: Barbara Gereboff and Fred Wiener.

Meeting Minutes:

Carrie Ridge delivered an eloquent D'var Torah.

A motion to approve minutes from the prior Trustee meeting passed unanimously, provided there are two (2) changes:

1)   use the term “operating surplus” instead of “profit”; and

2)   remove $ amount for tuition assistance from minutes.

Alyssa Feigelson and Elisha Gilette did a great job presenting their Tzedakha Project to the Trustees. Joelle encouraged everyone to attend the project day on May 10th.

Barbara presented the HOS report and entertained questions.  Barbara said that while we are behind in the Chai Excellence Fund, Feast Your Mind is ahead of where it needs to be.

With respect to admissions, Barbara said that thus far, 54 applications have been received (35 kinder, 11 for grades 1-6, and 8 for middle school) and that she is expecting to receive four (4) additional kinder applications.

Barbara also reported that David Lipman won 2nd place in the STEM science/math competition and another student came in first place. This was the first year that Wornick competed, and a total of 312 kids from various schools entered the competition.

Fred mentioned that the tax filing is on the Wornick website and that it is scheduled to be filed next week.

The Board then engaged in a discussion re: behavioral issues and discussed two specific incidents.  Several trustees thought it would be good to have a policy that parents can’t talk about other people’s children in order to keep rumors down and respect the dignity of those affected. Fran suggested a meeting to examine the behavior policy to get specific about how and when a student gets counseled out of the school.  Madeline suggested we review and discuss the policy next month and who evaluates and makes sure the policy is working.

Some thought that we should have a special needs night to educate the school’s population about how the school handles these matters. We need to be more proactive and tell people we have a policy and that it is followed. Encourage parents and students to talk to Barbara.   The policy will be posted on the Wornick site to make it more easily accessible.

The Board then met in Executive Session. Items were discussed and questions asked and answered.

The meeting adjourned at 9:15PM.

Respectfully submitted,

Josh Smith

RCWJDS Board Secretary 2011-2012
